ABOUT JULIE SHELTON

Julie Shelton, M.AmSAT

Julie is an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and Ergonomic Specialist with over a decade of experience with somatic teaching.  Julie grew up in the Midwest where she studied dance and acting for fifteen years, before coming to Los Angeles to pursue a professional acting career.  During that time, a casting director introduced Julie to the Alexander Technique (AT). She quickly started noticing reduced anxiety and a deeper awareness about the mind/body relationship with breath. Plus, her bodily tension and muscular pain were gone!

This sparked a desire in Julie to share this gift with others, and she enrolled in a three year program at the Alexander Technique Institute of Los Angeles (ATI-LA) to become a teacher of the technique.  Now, as an AmSAT certified teacher, she shares the technique with a variety of private clients from ages 8 to 92; and also teaches online, to students in the US and beyond, from Canada to Thailand.

Julie currently teaches AT at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, (CalArts), Baron Brown Studio in Santa Monica , Ca, Henry Mayo Newhall Educational Center and privately.  She was the Master Drama Teacher at Champs Charter Performing High School in Van Nuys, California, and piloted a special AT program for People Living with Parkinson's at the Henry Mayo Hospital Educational Center.

Julie has been studying this methodology for over fifteen years, and continues her studies by regularly attending AT educational conferences throughout the United States and abroad.  She is looking forward to attending the 2025 International Conference in Dublin, Ireland.

Julie loves sharing her passion for AT via speaking engagements, which she has done for organizations like Women In Touch, WIN organization, Foundation for Senior Services, Actors Alliance, just to name a few. She focuses her expertise on sharing tools for reducing stress and back pain caused from the work environment.

Julie also generously gives her time to nonprofits and organizations with which she feels aligned. She is a member of the Woman In Film Organization, SAG/AFTRA, and the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce.  Julie is a long-time board member of the Holmby Park Advisory Board in Holmby Hills where she serves as secretary.  She's also a member of The Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley, a global organization that provides women and girls with tools for economic empowerment.  This year Julie also serves as the VP of membership for the Henry Mayo Home Tour League.

Julie is also a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist (CEAS), and studied Primordial Sound Meditation with the Deepak Chopra Center.  These modalities enrich Julie’s offerings; whether she is working with people who are experiencing pain at their office or at home, she can set them up ergonomically; and she uses AT and meditation for centering and dispelling depression.

When she’s not teaching or volunteering, you can find Julie spending time with family, enjoying a walk admiring nature or listening to jazz music.

success is measured by your level of wellbeing. Get in touch today and find out how I can help set you on the path to better health.
